Lyndsey Welper Hired as an Assistant Golf Coach

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Graduated senior and former Trine University women's golfer Lyndsey Welper will make the transition from player to coach as she has been named an assistant with the women's golf program and will also help out with the men's program.

Welper will assist current head coach Noah Warren who was recently appointed to also take over the men's program following the retirement of Bill SanGiacomo.

"I'm very excited and blessed to be working for my alma mater," said Welper.  "Coaching has always been a dream of mine and I couldn't be happier to do it at Trine. I would like to thank President Brooks, Matt Land, and Coach Warren for giving me this great opportunity."

Welper had a great four-year playing career at Trine and led the Thunder in scoring average the past three seasons, including a career-low average of 82.1 strokes per round during her senior year.  She competed in six of nine team events as a senior and helped lead Trine to a third-place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings, its second-highest finish ever in program history since joining the conference.

For her career, Welper played in 35 events and 42 total rounds.  She averaged 87.1 strokes per round and finished as the individual champion in three events.  Welper finished in the top-10 in 14 career tournaments that included nine top-five showings.  Her 87.1 stroke average currently ranks as the fifth best scoring average in women's program history.

Welper capped her playing career with her first All-MIAA honor following the 2019 MIAA Championship as a second-team pick after placing in a tie for 14th overall out of 57 competitors.

Welper graduated from Trine in the spring of 2020 with a degree in golf management and minored in marketing.
