Trine Wins Olivet NCAA DIII Preview Tournament

EAST LANSING, MICH.  --  For the third straight event, the Trine University women's golf team found itself at the top of the team standings as the Thunder captured the NCAA DIII Preview tournament hosted by Olivet (Mich.) College at Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

The Thunder finished six strokes ahead of their nearest opponent with an overall team score of 350 strokes to win the tournament.  Calvin (Mich.) College was second at 356 strokes and Adrian (Mich.) College was third with 357 strokes.

The duo of junior Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) and senior Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) led the team with identical rounds of 86 strokes and tied for third overall.  By finishing in the top-five, both Doumont and Phillips earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomores Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) and Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind./Western Boone) both fired rounds of 89 strokes and placed in the top-10 in a tie for ninth place.  

Junior Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) placed in the top-15 with a score of 92 strokes.

Four players competed as individuals in the event for Trine with sophomore Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa) leading the way with a score of 90 strokes which was good enough to tie for 13th place.

Freshman Kelly Miller (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) finished two spots back of Guthrie in 21st place after an 18-hole total of 97 strokes.  Sophomore Annabelle Burkholder (Lima, Ohio/Bath) ended the day with a score of 103 strokes (t-27th) and fellow sophomore Carlene Rutledge (Elgin, Okla./Elgin) had a round of 113 strokes (32nd).

Trine is scheduled to compete in the Cleary University Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2 at Chemung Hills Golf Course in Howell, Mich.  The single-round tournament is set to start at 10:30 a.m.
