Women's Golf Places Second at Cleary Invitational

HOWELL, MICH.  --  The Trine University women's golf team placed second at the Cleary University Invitational at Chemung Hills Golf Course in Howell, Mich.

As a team, the Thunder posted a score of 373 strokes to finish second of four teams.  Cleary finished as the team champion with 354 strokes and Lourdes (Ohio) University was third at 375 strokes.

Sophomore Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) led Trine individually with a score of 86 strokes and finished second overall out of 29 competitors.  Junior Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) was next on the team with an 18-hole total of 89 strokes which was good enough for a tie for fifth place. 

Sophomore Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind./Western Boone) recorded the third lowest score for Trine at 96 strokes and was followed by junior Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) who shot a round of 102 strokes.

Senior Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) rounded out the team eligible scores with a round of 105 strokes.

Trine had three players compete as individuals in sophomore Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area), freshman Kelly Miller (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) and sophomore Annabelle Burkholder (Lima, Ohio/Bath).  Guthrie navigated the course in a total of 105 strokes to lead the trio.  Miller followed with a round of 107 strokes and Burkholder added a score of 113 strokes.

The Thunder will wrap-up their fall schedule tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 3) at the Calvin (Mich.) College Invitational.  The single-day event will begin at 2 p.m. at Thornapple Point Golf Course in Grand Rapids, Mich.
