Thunder Win Again

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  --  For the fourth time this fall, the Trine University women's golf team has won outright, or shared, a tournament team championship.  This time, the Thunder claimed top team honors at the Calvin (Mich.) University Invitational at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Thunder finished seven strokes ahead of Adrian (Mich.) College with a team score of 334 strokes to finish as the top team among three total squads.  The Bulldogs posted a cumulative score of 341 strokes to finish second and host Calvin was third at 352 strokes.

In addition to grabbing the team championship, junior Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) took medalist honors with a single-round score of 77 strokes.  The remaining four team eligible scorers all finished in the top-10, including sophomore Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind./Western Boone) who fired a round of 83 strokes and finished fourth overall.

Sophomore Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) finished seventh after recording a round of 86 strokes and was followed by the duo of junior Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) and senior Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) who both had rounds of 88 strokes to also finish in a tie for ninth.

Also competing for Trine was sophomore Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area) and ended the afternoon with a score of 93 strokes which put her in 14th place.

Trine's performance at the Calvin Invitational ends competition during the fall season.
