Women's Golf Struggles in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Trine University women's golf team struggled in the fourth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree of the season. The team finished ninth in the contest which took place at the Thornapple Pointe Golf Course.

The Thunder finished the day with a team score of 356 to end up in the ninth spot. Hope College came out on top of the event with a team score of 316 strokes, winning with a ten stroke lead over the next highest competitor.

Junior Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind. / Western Boone) led the team finishing in a tie for 25th as an individual with a score of 87 strokes during the round. Freshman Grace Dubec (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) came in one stroke behind her team to finish with 88 strokes in a tie for 28th. Dubec turned in the cleanest nine holes on the back half of the course finishing with five pars on the back nine.

Rounding out the team score of the team were juniors Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio / Genoa Area) with 90 strokes and Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth) with 91. Freshman Carli Sanford (Howe, Ind. / Sturgis) finished with 94 strokes as the fifth golfer for the team.

Competing as an individual for the team was freshman Bailey Bravata (Holland, Mich. / Zeeland East) who turned in a score of 91 strokes in the round.

The team will return to action when they begin competition at the MIAA Championship on Friday, Oct. 8. The first day of the event is set to start at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by the Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek, Mich.
