Thunder Place Second at Season-Opening Trine Women's Invite

ANGOLA, Ind. – In the opening event of the 2022 fall season, the Trine University women's golf team scored a second-place finish in the Trine Women's Invite on Friday afternoon. The Thunder women were hosting the event at Zollner Golf Course.

Grace College were the team champions with a combined score of 317. The Trine scorers went for 341 strokes at the tournament to finish runners-up out of 12 teams.

Sophomore Grace Dubec was the low woman for the Thunder with an 81 on the day. She tied for fourth on the leaderboard. Dubec birdied hole four and went two-over on the final eight holes.

Senior Máire Sullivan was one stroke back of Dubec with an 82. She hit for birdie on the par-5 fifth hole and tied for the eighth spot overall.

Senior Lily Williamson hit for an 84 in the final home event of her career. Williamson will graduate this winter with a degree in golf management. "It's been fun playing with my best friends by my side," she mentioned after her round. Williamson was a model of consistency all afternoon with a birdie on the hole three par-4 and had no higher than a bogey for the entirety of her round.

Tying for the final scoring position for Trine were sophomores Bailey Bravata and Caroline Boyd. Bravata and Boyd each shot a 94.

Other notable scores for the Thunder included senior Reagan Guthrie at 84 and freshman Calley Ruff at 89. Guthrie tied with Williamson for 10th overall, giving Trine four of the top 10 scoring positions. Ruff, in her first collegiate tournament, birdied the par-5 seventh hole to highlight her day.

Next weekend, women's golf hits the road for the IU East Invite at Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond, Indiana. The two-day event begins on Friday, September 2.
