Women's Golf Defeats Albion to Defend Brit-Thunder Cup

ANGOLA, Ind. – In the 2023 edition of the Brit-Thunder Cup, the Trine University women's golf team was able to retain the title thanks to a 48-26 win over Albion College on Tuesday afternoon at Zollner Golf Course. Five-of-six pairings on the women's side were on by Thunder student-athletes.

Pairing one was a close battle for Máire Sullivan, but she was able to prevail in the end 8-7. A three-hole winning stretch on 5-7 helped build a lead for the senior and she was able to carry momentum on to the back nine. Grace Dubec dominated her pairing by winning 15 holes and shutting out the Britons.

Reagan Guthrie and Bailey Bravata were each victorious in their pairings. Guthrie won her matchup 6-4 and took holes 15 and 16 to pull ahead. Bravata had a little more breathing room with an 8-5 victory.

The fifth pairing for the Thunder was split between Calley Ruff and senior Anabelle Burkholder. A 5-2 advantage for Ruff on the front nine was enough for Burkholder to cap off the 7-5 win over their opponent. Caroline Boyd surrendered holes 16 and 18 to finish one back at 5-4 in favor of Albion.

Trine will compete once again at Clearbrook Golf Club this weekend for the Hope Invitational beginning on Friday, April 7. Tee time is 1 p.m.
