FOND DU LAC, WISC. -- The Trine University Women's hockey team were defeated by conference foe Marian University by 3-0 in the first game of this weekend's doubleheader.

The Thunder found themselves down a skater for the first time in the game in the 17th minute of the first period. After killing off all but two seconds of the penalty, the Sabre's Paige Johnson scored the first goal of the contest. Nicole Niemi and Ally Fox tallied the assists on the goal.

Trine was unable to respond to the goal and Marian would add two more on the night to win the contest 3-0.

Sophomore Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) started in net for the Thunder and made 32 saves in the contest. Freshman defender Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Ala.) led Trine with four shots on goal in the game, while the team would end the game with 18 total.

"We struggled in most aspects of the game tonight," said head coach Tom Hofman, "With such a young team that's bound to happen sometimes. But to compete with Marian tomorrow we have to be better in our defensive zone and stay out of penalty trouble. We really need to win the fifty-fifty battles tomorrow and to do that we need more effort from the top of our lineup to the bottom."

The Thunder will look to do just that tomorrow, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. when they finish off the weekend doubleheader with Marian.
