Thunder Come Back to Secure First Tie of Season

ANGOLA, IND. – The Trine women's hockey team came back from a one goal deficit to secure the first tie in program history against Chatham University this afternoon 1-1.

The Cougars came out strong in the first period, looking for redemption after yesterday's 2-1 loss to the Thunder. In the sixth minute of the game Dahea Chung received a pass from her teammate and took a shot from just outside the crease. Sophomore Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.), who once again got the start for Trine in net, was able to get in front of the puck, but unable to keep it out of the goal.

The Thunder would struggle offensively for the rest of the period, entering the first intermission down 11-6 in shots and 1-0 on the scoreboard.

A different Trine team took the ice to begin the second period, with the offense beginning to find its rhythm. In the sixth minute of the period Chatham committed a penalty and the Thunder were given the man advantage. They would only need 30 seconds to take advantage. Freshman defender Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.) received a pass from behind the net and whistled a shot past the Cougar goalie from the point. The goal was her third of the season. Both Sierra Westner (Saginaw, Mich.) and Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) recorded assists on the goal.

The teams would trade shots for the remainder of the period and would enter the second intermission tied at 1-1.

Despite the offense finding even more rhythm as the game continued, outshooting the Cougars 12-4 in the remainder of the game, the Thunder were unable to come away with the go head goal in either the third period or overtime finishing the game with the score even at one.

With the tie Trine improves to 2-8-1 on the season. The will look to continue their unbeaten streak when they travel to King's College (Pa.) on Sunday, January 14, for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
