PITTSTON, PA. – The Trine women's hockey team hit the road and remembered to pack the offense for a non-conference contest against King's College (Pa.) and five skaters recorded at least a goal in the 8-2 victory.
Freshman forward Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) led the team with a historic hat trick, it is the first recorded by either a men's or women's NCAA hockey player at Trine. Isaacson's first goal was the first of the game and came in just the third minute. Her second, the team's third, goal came eight minutes later and would end up being the game-winner, her second of the season. Her final goal did not come until the fourth minute of the final period. After the three goal contest, Isaacson now leads the team with five goals and eight points so far this season.
The Thunder scored six unanswered goals and took a 6-0 lead into the third period. Both teams traded goals in the final stanza to reach the 8-2 final. Trine's offense played well throughout the contest out-shooting the Monarchs 58-16.
The only other multi-goal scorer for the team in the game was sophomore forward Sydney Hernalsteen (Macomb, Mich.) who finished the game with two goals, her first and second of the season. Joining Isaacson with the team-high three points were freshman defender Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Alaska) with three assists and freshman forward Sula Argyris (Woodhaven, Mich.) with a goal and two assists.
Freshman defender Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) and sophomore forward Katie Plyer (Layton, Utah) rounded out the scoring for the Thunder, each recording their first goals of the season.
"I am very proud of the team's effort in the first two period of the game," said head coach Tom Hofman, "The offense really played well today and it's great that Kirsten, Katie and Sydney got their first goals of the season. Eryn has been working really hard and getting the hat trick awesome."
The Thunder return to NCHA play with a pair of home games against Aurora University, the first coming on Friday, January 19 with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
