Women's Hockey Defeated by Northland

ASHLAND, WIS. -- The Trine women's hockey team was defeated for the second day in a row by Northland College by the score of 6-2.

The game started with both defenses playing solidly, remaining scoreless through much of the first period. In the final minute, the Jills scored the first goal of the game with on an unassisted attempt by Samantha Scott.

Northland would score two more goals to begin the second period to build the 3-0 lead. 

During the tenth minute of the second period, the Thunder finally found the back of the net. Freshman forward Briana Carlson (St. Charles, Ill.) scored her second goal of the season. Fellow classmates forward Katie Plyer (Layton, Utah) and defender Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) added assists.

Northland responded to the goal with three more of their own to finish off the period with a 6-1 lead.

Trine scored the lone goal of the third period. In just the second minute of the stanza, freshman blueliner Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.) scored her fourth goal of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by freshman forward Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) and Olivia Coyne (Allison Park, Pa.).

Following the loss, the Thunder fall to 4-11-1 overall and 2-10 in the NCHA. The team returns home for a pair of games against St. Norbert College, with the first game coming on Friday, February 2, with puck drop coming at 7 p.m.
