Thunder Score First But Fall to Falcons

MEQUON, WIS. -- The Trine women's hockey team was defeated by Concordia University (Wis.) tonight by the score of 2-1.

The Thunder came out strong in the contest, tallying a goal in the tenth minute of the first period to take the early lead. Freshman forward Katie Plyer (Layton, Utah) scored the goal, her third of the season. Freshman forward Sula Argyris (Woodhaven, Mich.) added the assist on the goal, her fifth of the season.

It looked like Trine would take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission but in the final seconds of the period, the Falcons scored a goal of their own to tie the score 1-1.

Just a minute into the second period, Concordia would score again to take the 2-1 lead, which would be enough for the victory.

Freshman Ryan Harth (Medinah, Ill.) received the start in net for the Thunder, and despite the two goals allowed played well. In the final stanza, in particular, she made save after save to keep Trine in the game. She made 35 saves on the night, 16 of those coming in the final period.

The Thunder will conclude their inaugural season tomorrow, February 17, at 4 p.m. when they take on Concordia once again.
