Thunder Tripped up in Opener

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's hockey team was defeated by visiting Aurora University by the score of 4-0.

The Thunder looked poised to take the early lead with two power plays in the first ten minutes of the contest but were unable to capitalize due to outstanding play by the Aurora netminder.

The Spartans got their own power play opportunity late in the period and capitalized scoring their first goal of the night to take the 1-0 lead. They would not look back throughout the rest of the evening wracking up three more goals in the next two periods to win by the score of 4-0.

Despite the lopsided final score, the Trine spent much of the night in the offensive end of the ice. They finished the game with 37 shots, while Aurora finished with only 18.

Leading the way for the Thunder was sophomore Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich. / Ann Arbor Cougars) who finished the night with five shots on goal. In particular, Isaacson accounted for the Trines best opportunity at a goal during the middle portion of the third period.

The Thunder will take the ice again tomorrow when they travel to faceoff with Aurora again. The game is set to start at 8 p.m. eastern time / 7 p.m. central time.
