Thunder Bested by Foresters

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team came up short of the weekend sweep as Lake Forest College came away with the 2-0 victory.

The two teams started the game with strong defensive performances, both holding the opposition off the scoreboard despite good early chances. The teams combined for 28 shots in the first period with Trine coming out on top with 15. But both goalies held strong and the teams entered the first intermission knotted at zero.

The game stayed that way for the majority of the second period as well until the Foresters finally broke the stalemate with a goal in the 17th minute of the period. The goal came when the Lake Forest skater got behind the Thunder defense and made the goalie miss on the breakaway opportunity.

Trine never recovered from the goal, as Lake Forest dominated the final 23 minutes of the contest, outshooting them 24 to 6. The Foresters added their second goal in the second minute of the third period and then held on to the 2-0 lead for the victory.

Junior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) played in net for the Thunder and, despite allowing the two goals, she came away with 35 saves, finishing the weekend with 66 saves.

Trine falls to 5-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) following the loss. The Thunder take a break from conference play finishing off the fall portion of their schedule with an exhibition game on Saturday, Dec. 8 before taking an extended break until the new year.
