Women's Hockey Rides Three-Goal Third to 5-2 Victory

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Four different skaters came away with goals as the Trine University women's hockey team defeated host Chatham University by the score of 5-2.

The Thunder came away with the lone goal of the first period. Freshman forward Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) tallied the goal, her first of the season, while sophomore Sula Argyris (Woodhaven, Mich.) recorded the assist. Trine would take the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Chatham scored a goal of their own in the fifth minute of the second period by taking advantage of a power play opportunity. But the Thunder would respond with a power play goal of their own just a minute later to take back the lead, 2-1. The goal came from sophomore Emily Moore (London, Ontario) with an assist by Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.).

The Cougars evened the score again at two in just the third minute of the final period.

The teams remained tied until the eighth minute of the period when Trine sophomore defender Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) came up with her second goal of the season to give her team the 3-2 lead. Freshman Autumn Burgo (Caledonia, Mich.) recorded an assist on the goal.

Trine made the lead two in the 18th minute of the period, with sophomore Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) recording her team-high seventh goal of the season. Moore added an assist on the goal which gave the Thunder the 4-2 lead.

The game was iced in the closing seconds of the game as Trine tallied an empty net goal to take the 5-2 victory.

Junior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) got the start in net for the Thunder and came away with 24 saves and the victory.

Trine improves to 6-4-1 overall following the win. They will face off again with Chatham tomorrow, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m.
