Women's Hockey Fail in Comeback Attempt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Trine Univesity women's hockey team scored two goals in the third to pull within one of Chatham University but ultimately fell by the score of 3-2.

The Cougars built a 3-0 lead in the first two periods of the game, behind two power-play goals.

In the third, the Thunder finally found their offensive groove and responded with two goals of their own to pull within one.

The first Trine goal was scored by freshman Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.), who ends the weekend with three goals in the two games, in the ninth minute of the final period. Sophomores Sula Argyris (Woodhaven, Mich.) and Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) both tallied assists on the attempt.

The final goal of the game came from sophomore Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.), who added to her team-high goal tally to end the night with eight so far this season. Sophomore Emily Moore (London, Ontario) and freshman Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) added assists on the goal.

Trine was unable to score the tying goal, despite pulling their goaltender for the final 48 seconds of the contest, and dropped the contest by the score of 3-2.

Both teams racked up the shots in the contest with the Thunder finishing with 44 and the Cougars ending with 46. Junior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) got the start in net for Trine and finished the game with 43 saves despite allowing the three goals.

The Thunder fall to 6-5-1 following the loss. They travel to face off with nationally-ranked Adrian College in their next contest, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
