DiMaggio Leads Thunder Over Spartans

GENEVA, Ill. -- The Trine University women's hockey picked up another Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) victory by outscoring host Aurora University by the score of 4-2.

The home team picked up the first goal of the contest in just the third minute of play, but the Thunder responded with a goal of their own just over three minutes later. With a man advantage from a Spartan penalty, freshman Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) came away with the goal with assists from sophomore Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Alaska) and freshman Devin Dzumaryk (Milford, Mich.).

Trine scored the lone goal of the second period with sophomore Sula Argyris (Woodhaven, Mich.) tallying the attempt and DiMaggio adding an assist. The Thunder took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

The Thunder opened the scoring in the third stretching their lead to two with a goal in the first minute of play. DiMaggio tallied her second of the night with the goal as sophomore Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) added an assist.

Trine would ice the game in the final minute of play as sophomore Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) came away with the empty-netter to give the Thunder their final lead of 4-2.

In net, junior Molly Scarborough received the start and finished the game with 39 saves.

The Thunder improve to 7-8-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the NCHA after the victory. They will finish off their weekend doubleheader against Aurora tomorrow, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. CST.
