Thunder Tripped Up by Aurora

GENEVA, Ill. – The Trine University women's hockey team took the early lead but fell to a third-period comeback by host Aurora University in overtime, 2-1.

The Thunder took the early lead at the 14-minute mark of the first period when freshman Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) came away with her third goal of the season. Classmate Natasha Strbiak (Renton, Wash.) added the assist on the goal.

Trine held the 1-0 lead through all of the second period and most of the third before surrendering their first goal of the game in the 15th minute of the final stanza. Following the goal regulation ended in a 1-1 tie and the teams headed to overtime. Just 37 seconds into the extra period Aurora finished off the comeback and took the game by the score of 2-1.

Sophomore Ryan Harth (Medinah, Ill.) got her first start of the season in net for the Thunder and ended the game with 15 saves.

The Thunder fall to 7-9-1 overall and 5-6-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will continue their season by traveling to face St. Norbert College for an NCHA doubleheader beginning on Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
