Scarborough Named NCHA Defensive Player of the Week

DULUTH, Minn. – Trine University women's hockey junior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) has been named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Women's Defensive Player of the Week following the Thunder's 1-0-1 weekend against St. Norbert College.

Scarborough started both games in net for Trine in their crucial series against the Green Knights as both teams vie for a spot in the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs. She becomes the third member of the team to be named a player of the week this season. It is the third time in her career she has received the honor.

On Friday, Scarborough helped secure the team's comeback tie. After allowing the lone goal in the first period she closed out the contest by shutting out St. Norbert over the final two periods and overtime. She finished the game with 30 saves including 24 in her three shutout periods.

On Saturday, Scarborough once again turned in a one-goal performance. She finished the game with 32 saves allowing just one goal as the Thunder took the win 3-1.

Following the weekend, she currently ranks in the top-five of all four main goaltending categories among NCHA goalies. She sits in second with a .939 save percentage and fourth with a 2.17 goals-against average. She is fifth in the conference with a .500 win percentage and 461 saves.

The Thunder will continue their chase for their first berth in the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs with a weekend doubleheader against Northland College which starts on Friday, February 8 at 7 p.m.
