ANGOLA, Ind. -- Freshman Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) recorded two goals as the Trine University women's hockey team came away with a 3-1 victory over visiting Concordia University Wisconsin to finish off the sweep and secure the four-seed in the upcoming Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs.
DiMaggio scored her first goal of the contest in the 10th minute of the contest to give the Thunder the 1-0 lead. Freshman Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) started the play with a shot of her own that was turned aside. Sophomore Olivia Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa.) collected the rebound and passed it back to Wilson who forwarded it along to DiMaggio in front of the net.
Junior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) turned in the first of two shutout periods for the Thunder to hold the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Just over a minute into the second period, the Thunder added to their lead as DiMaggio came up with her second goal of the contest. Sophomores Sula Argyris (Woodhaven, Mich.) and Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.) came away with assists on the goal.
Scarborough finished with another shutout period and the team entered the final intermission leading 2-0.
The Falcons finally broke through the Thunder defense in the 14th minute of the final period to pull within one at 2-1.
Trine responded just over a minute later with a goal of their own. Sophomore Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) started the play, passing the puck out to Argyris at the top of an offensive zone faceoff circle. Argyris handed it off to Cameron who would pass it back. Argyris then finished off the play with her lone goal of the game giving the Thunder the 3-1 lead.
The Thunder played stout defense for the remainder of the period and would end the game with the 3-1 victory.
Scarborough finished with 29 saves in the contest and picked up another win for the season.
