DiMaggio Named NCHA Freshman of the Year

DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced the women's 2018-19 season award winners and for the first time in program history a member of the Trine University women's hockey team received a nod.

The NCHA announced that Thunder freshman forward Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) would be named the 2018-19 NCHA Freshman of the Year.

DiMaggio was an integral part of the team's push to reach the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs for the first time. She finished the season with 14 points including eight goals and six assists.

"DiMaggio is just one of those skaters who works really hard. You see her in the gym on our off day and its really paying off. She's a player that skates 110 percent no matter where she is on the ice," said head coach Tom Hoffman, "I am really excited that she is getting recognition for all of that hard work."

The freshman went on a tear throughout the second half of the season tallying all but one of her points after the holiday break. Of those eight goals, two were game-winners during the team's push for the playoffs.

The first came against Aurora University during DiMaggio's first three-point performance. She finished the game with two goals and assist.

Her second came in the team's final regular season game of the year where she clinched the team's fourth-place conference finish by helping the team beat visiting Concordia University Wisconsin. The win gave the team their first conference home-sweep and the tiebreaker over the Falcons.
