Women’s Hockey Opens Season with a Bang

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Trine University women's hockey offense exploded in their opening contest of the season as they defeated their hosts from Post University by the score of 8-1.

The Thunder started the scoring early coming up with their first of the night just over five minutes into the contest. The team's first goal of the season was scored by junior Olivia Coyne (Allison Park, Pa.) with an assist from classmate Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.).

The team would add to its lead just seven minutes later, this time junior captain Emily Moore (London, Ont.) came up with the goal with assists from Sierra Westner (Saginaw, Mich.) and Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Alaska).

This goal would end up being the game-winner as senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) and the Thunder defense would allow just one goal in the second period. Scarborough recorded 21 saves in the contest.

All told six members of Trine came away with a goal. Two members of the team came up with two goals each, Coyne added another later in the contest and sophomore Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) came up with two of her own.

Freshman Sara Martino (Arlington Heights, Ill.), sophomore Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) and junior Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.) rounded out the scoring for the Thunder. Isaacson would lead the team in assists finishing with three in the contest.

Trine will face off with Post again tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
