Women's Hockey Salvages Weekend with 1-0 Victory

MEQUON, Wis. -- Following a tough loss on Friday, the Trine University women's hockey team came up with a 1-0 victory over hosts Concordia University Wisconsin to return home with a weekend split.

The first period saw the Thunder forced into a defensive position as the Falcons came up with 12 shots on goal to Trine's four. The defense held however and the team entered the first intermission scoreless.

In the second the tie would be broken by the Thunder offense. Following a faceoff win, junior Sierra Wesnter (Saginaw, Mich.) ended up with the puck and passed it in close to sophomore Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.). DiMaggio's first shot was turned aside but the rebound came right back to her and her second attempt struck true.

The goal was her third of the season and gave the team a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the second period.

The defense went back to work following the goal killing off two penalties in the period and turning aside another 12 shots from Concordia Wisconsin to enter the second intermission with the slim lead intact.

The third saw both teams on more equal footing with Trine recording seven shots and the Falcons coming up with eight. But it did not matter as the Thunder defense would continue to hold and the team came away with the 1-0 victory.

Senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) came up huge in net for Trine ending the contest with her first shutout of the season. She turned aside 32 shots in the contest.

The Thunder improve to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the NCHA following the victory. They will continue their season on Friday, November 22 when they host Adrian College. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
