Women's Hockey Hangs with Nationally-Ranked Bulldogs

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team gave visiting Adrian College all they could handle through two periods but came up short as the opposition left town with a 3-0 victory.

The Thunder turned in their best period of the night in the first, outshooting the Bulldogs 13-10. Adrian started the period strongly as well, picking up a goal off of a loose rebound in the eighth minute of play.

Trine responded with two great scoring chances that were both met by great goaltending. The first came in the 15th minute when junior Sierra Westner (Saginaw, Mich.) curved a shot into the upper left-hand corner of the net, the Bulldog goalie just got her shoulder on the puck to turn it aside.

In the 17th minute, junior Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) stole the puck in the neutral zone and ended up with a breakaway attempt. She ended up with three shots in the ensuing offensive attack, the first two being turned aside and the third going behind the goalie and out into the circle.

Adrian would add a goal in each the second and third periods to pull away in the contest, as the Thunder faded following their strong first period.

Despite the loss senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) came up with 34 saves in the contest.

Trine falls to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will travel to face Adrian tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 23. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
