Women's Hockey Just Short of Foresters

ANGOLA, Ind. -- For the second night in a row, the Trine University women's hockey team took a tied score into the final minutes of the contest, but today they gave up a final goal and fell to visiting Lake Forest College by the score of 2-1.

The Foresters struck first in the contest, taking advantage of a shorthanded breakaway opportunity to take the 1-0 lead. The Thunder were unable to respond in the period and entered the first intermission trailing in the game.

Trine finally did put together a response in the second period. The play began with a shot on goal from sophomore Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.), which rebounded out wide of the net. Junior Olivia Coyne (Allison Park, Pa.) collected the loose puck and fired a pass to classmate Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) who was waiting in front of the crease. She placed her shot perfectly to pull the Thunder into a tie at 1-1.

That score would hold until the 18th minute of the final period when the Foresters turned a Thunder neutral-zone turnover into their second goal of the contest taking the 2-1 lead.

Trine was unable to tie the game again as a last-minute penalty robbed them of the opportunity to even pull their goalie for an extra attacker. Despite being shorthanded to finish the game, Wilson still came up with two quality shots in the final seconds of the game.

In net, senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey Minn.) once again turned in a strong performance as she recorded 36 saves. She finishes the weekend with 94 saves against the visiting Foresters, after finishing last night's game with 58 saves.

The Thunder fall to 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. Today's contest marks the end of the 2019 portion of the team's schedule. They will return to the ice on Friday, January 3 when they host St. Olaf College for a 4 p.m. contest.
