Women's Hockey and St. Olaf Play to Draw

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey took a lead on the back of a powerplay goal but gave up a late goal to the opposition and ended the day with a 1-1 tie with visiting St. Olaf College.

Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the first period, though the Thunder outshot the Oles 12-7.

Most of the second period remained scoreless as well, but with just four seconds remaining Trine finally broke up the stalemate. Junior Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.) started the play with a pass inside to sophomore Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) who fired a shot on goal. The saved shot bounced back outside of the crease where senior Bailey Goodwin (Fort Wayne, Ind.) deflected it back into the net for the goal.

The team held the 1-0 lead through most of the third period, but in the 16th minute, the Oles finally responded with a goal of their own. The 1-1 tie would hold through the end of regulation and an overtime period to become the final result.

Senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) played the game in net for the Thunder where she finished with 32 saves while allowing the lone goal.

Trine falls to 3-4-2 following the draw. They will host St. Olaf again tomorrow, Saturday, January 4 at 2 p.m.
