Women's Hockey Drops Intense Contest to Aurora

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team fell to visiting Aurora University by a score of 3-2.

The Thunder came up with the first goal in the ninth minute of the opening stanza. Senior Katie Plyer (Layton, Utah) would start and finish the play on her own. She came up with a steal behind the net and finished off with a wraparound shot on net that went for the goal.

The 1-0 lead lasted almost three minutes before the Spartans responded to tie the game at one.

Trine took their second lead of the contest in the first minute of the second period. After a clear attempt from the Aurora defense, junior Olivia Coyne (Allison Park, Pa.) ended up with the puck next to the net. She fired a shot on goal that was turned aside. Classmate Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) collected the rebound struck true for the goal.

The Spartans tied the game again in the 13th minute and then took their first lead of the contest in the 19th minute by taking advantage of a powerplay opportunity. They would hold onto the 3-2 lead through the third period making it final.

Senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) played the game in net for Trine and finished the game with 36 saves.

The Thunder fall to 7-7-4 overall and 3-6-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play following the loss. They will look to rebound tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. by hosting Aurora again.
