Strong Second Not Enough Against Adrian

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team played a strong second period against a tough Adrian College squad but struggled in the first and third to lose the game 8-1.

The Bulldogs started the game strong catching the Thunder on their heels. They would score three unanswered goals in that period.

Adrian made the lead 4-0 in the sixth minute of the second, but the feel of the period was already completely different. Trine kept pace with the opposition throughout the stanza, matching them shot for shot.

The Thunder tallied their own goal in the 11th minute of the period. Junior Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) poked away the puck in the defensive end with classmate Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) coming up with it. Isaacson was joined by freshman Michell Byker (Gurnee, Ill.) in a race down the ice. A late pass in traffic by Isaacson set up the goal for Byker who was able to put the puck behind the goalie to cut the deficit to three.

The 4-1 score held into the second intermission. Adrian once again came out on a tear in the third scoring four more goals to pull away to the 8-1 victory.

Trine falls to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will finish off the weekend tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 27 with a road contest once again against Adrian. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
