Women’s Hockey Drops Tight Contest with Visiting Lakers

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team dropped a tight contest with visiting Oswego State by the score of 2-1.

The Thunder looked ready to keep their momentum from last night going as they struck first in the contest. With the puck in the offensive end and an extra skater on the ice following a penalty by the Lakers, the team had excellence passes around the point and into the flat where senior Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich. / Little Caesars) was able to finish off the play with her first goal of the season. Freshman Payton Hans (Johnson Creek, Wis. / Madison Capitals) and senior Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ont. / Bluewater Hawks) added assists.

After a scoreless final nine minutes of the first period, Trine entered the first intermission with the 1-0 lead.

Oswego would score the final two goals of the contest, one in each of the final two periods and would come up with the victory 2-1.

Once again freshman Ryleigh Furlong (Lakeville, Minn. / Farmington) showed her talent in net, despite the team coming up short on the scoreboard. She finished the game with 36 saves.

The Thunder all to 1-1 following the loss. They will next take the ice when they travel to take on St. Olaf College for the first half of a weekend doubleheader on Friday, Nov. 5. The contest is set to start at 5 p.m. ET or 4 p.m. CT.
