Oles Hold Off Thunder, Women's Hockey Loses 4-3

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- After scoring the final two goals of the contest to pull back within striking distance of St. Olaf College, the Trine University women's hockey team fell to their hosts by the score of 4-3.

The Oles struck first in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the game. The lead would last just under five minutes as the Thunder scored their first goal of the game. Freshman Payton Hans (Johnson Creek, Wis.) passed the puck off to senior Natasha Strbiak (Renton, Wash.) who fired a shot toward the goal. Freshman Kailey Mleko (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) deflected the puck into the goal for the first of her career.

In the final minutes of the period St. Olaf would take back the lead. The lone goal of the second period would go to the Oles as well and the Thunder would enter the third period trailing 3-1.

A power-play goal in the 10th minute of the final stanza gave the home team their largest lead of the contest at 4-1.

Freshman Anabelle Scriver (Holt, Mich.) started the comeback attempt for Trine, scoring her first goal of the season with junior Grace Canty (West Bloomfield, Mich.) adding an assist.

Just two minutes later in the 14th minute of the period, sophomore Grace Hicks (Layton, Utah) cut the lead further with a goal of her own. Scriver and senior Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) added assists.

In net, freshman Ryleigh Furlong (Lakeville, Minn.) started her third straight game and finished the game with 19 saves, while allowing the four goals.

The Thunder fall to 1-2 following the loss. They will face off with St. Olaf again tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 6. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.
