Women's Hockey Drops High Scoring Contest with Concordia Wisconsin

MEQUON, Wis. -- The Trine University women's hockey team traded goals with their hosts from Concordia University Wisconsin during the first two periods, but gave up a trio in the third to fall 6-3 in the opening contest of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) portion of their season.

An opening seconds goal from the Falcons gave the opposition an early 1-0 lead, but the Thunder responded relatively quickly with their own goal in the fifth minute. Junior Sara Martino (Arlington Heights, Ill.) tallied the goal in unassisted fashion knotting the contest at 1-1.

Concordia Wisconsin scored another goal in the opening minute of the second period to take back the lead at 2-1 but once again Trine quickly responded. In the third minute of play senior Jade Pandres (Eagle River, Alaska) passed the puck off to classmate Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) who cashed in to tie the game.

Ten minutes later the Falcons took another lead with a power play goal. Just under four minutes later Wilson would cash in on a power play opportunity of her own, this time with assists from senior Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) and Payton Hans (Johnson Creek, Wis.).

The 3-3 draw would last into the final period, but once again Concordia took a lead in the opening minute of the stanza. This time Trine was unable to respond and the Falcons built their lead to 6-3 over the rest of the contest, handing the Thunder their fourth loss of the season.

Trine falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in NCHA play following the loss. The two teams will face off again tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. ET.
