Beacons Shutout Thunder

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Trine University women's hockey team were shutout in the opening game of the 14th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament against their hosts from UMass Boston by the score of 3-0.

Neither team cracked the back of the net during the first period, but not for lack of effort on either side. Both teams recorded double-digit shot totals during the period with the Beacons having the edge at 18-13. Senior Emily Nettesheim (Hartland, Wis.) set the tone of the contest in net turning all 18 of those shots aside keeping the score 0-0 after one.

The second period saw UMass Boston turn the offensive pressure up on the Thunder and Nettesheim, outshooting the team 20-4. Three of those shots would find the back of the net as the Beacons built a 3-0 lead.

The Thunder defense reorganized in the third and held the opposition from adding to that lead, but the offense was unable to find purchase. After UMass Boston outshot the team again in the third, 15-7, the shot total for the contest would end at 53-24. Nettesheim ended the contest with 50 saves despite allowing the three goals.

Trine will await the results of the second contest of the day to find out their opponent for tomorrow. They will face off with either Stevenson Unviersity or Bowdoin College tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m.
