Wilson Scores Twice as Thunder Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Senior Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) scored first and last in the contest, as the Trine University women's hockey game came up with a win over Marian University by the score of 4-1.

Wilson tallied her first goal in the eighth minute of play, it would be the lone goal of the first period. Freshman Abby Martin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) came up with the loose puck, after the Marian defense cleared the zone, and quickly passed it off to Wilson who beat the goalie for the 1-0 lead.

Under a minute into the second period the team added to their lead. A wild pass from the Sabres in their offensive made its way the length of the ice, bouncing off the board back toward the net. Freshman Kailey Mleko (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) beat out the Marian skaters collecting the puck just in front of the net and firing a shot past the left side of the goalie.

Marian was able to answer the goal under two minutes later cutting the deficit to one once again.

The Thunder made it two again in the 12th minute of the period. Freshman Payton Hans (Johnson Creek, Wis.) scored the goal after two quick passes got her the puck directly in front of the net. Sophomore Grace Hicks (Layton, Utah) and senior Hannah Nelson (Libertyville, Ill.) were delivered those passes and earned assists for their efforts.

After an uneventful end to the second and most of the third, Marian pulled their goalie to try to get back in the game. Wilson made them pay for the attempt netting her second goal of the game to ice the game and give the team the 4-1 victory.

Freshman Ryleigh Furlong (Lakeville, Minn.) earned the win in net for the Thunder on the back of 32 saves.

The team improves 2-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the victory. They will return home to face off with Marian again next weekend in a pair of non-conference games. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10.
