Wilson Named NCHA Player of the Week

DULUTH, Minn. – Senior Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) has been named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Trine University women's hockey team during a split with visiting Aurora University.

Wilson is the first Thunder student-athlete to be named player of the week this season and it is the first time she has earned the award during her time at Trine.

After the team gave up a pair of early goals, Wilson led the comeback attempt in Trine's first game of the weekend. Wilson won the puck backwards to classmate Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) who fired a shot on net from the top of the faceoff circle to score the team's first goal. Then a few minutes later Wilson scored a goal of her own, the team's first shorthanded goal of the season, to pull within one at 3-2.

Then on Saturday she led the team with a pair of assists as the Thunder ended Aurora's eight game winning streak with a 3-1 victory. Wilson worked with freshman Kailey Mleko (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) to finish off a great 2-on-1 opportunity to give the team a 1-0 lead. Then she helped ice the game by setting up the team's third goal making the score 3-1 in the final minutes of the second period.

Trine improved to 5-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in NCHA play following the weekend split. They will hit the road to face St. Norbert College next weekend in another NCHA matchup. The first contest is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
