Women's Hockey Roars Back to 6-1 Victory

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University scored first, but the Trine University women's hockey team scored the final six goals of the game to finish the regular season with a 6-1 victory.

After the Vikings scored in the eighth minute of the first period, freshman Kailey Mleko (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) tied the game with her first goal in the 18th minute sending the game to intermission tied 1-1.

Junior Makena Thompson (Anchorage, Alaska) gave the team the lead in the sixth minute of the second period. Then in the 12th minute sophomore Taryn Raisanen (White Lake, Mich.) built on that lead with a goal of her own. The team would take the 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

Trine then finished out the game with three power play goals in the final period to build the lead to 6-1. Seniors Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.), Emily Moore (London, Ontario) and Kirsten Vandenheuvel (Denfield, Ontario) each accounted for one of the goals.

Senior Emily Nettesheim (Hartland, Wis.) faced little adversity in net but recorded the win with six saves.

Trine finishes the regular season 9-15-1 overall and 6-9-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. The team will travel to face St. Norbert College next weekend as a part of the opening round of the Slaats Cup Playoffs.
