Women's Hockey Hangs Close with St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. -- The Trine University women's hockey team held a lead in the second period but ultimately fell to the number three seed from St. Norbert College by the score of 4-3.

The Green Knights stuck first in the contest when in just the third minute of play they tallied their first goal of the contest to take a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder responded just two minutes later. Senior Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) scored the goal with freshman Payton Hans (Johnson Creek, Wis.) and sophomore Taryn Raisanen (White Lake, Mich.) adding assists. The goal, which bolstered Wilson's program record to 21, tied the contest and would be the final tally for the period.

The second period in contrast to the first featured five goals between the two teams. Trine struck first this time at the 27th second mark of the period to take the lead. Freshman Kailey Mleko (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) came up with the goal, her tenth of the season. Wilson and Hans added assists.

The Green Knights scored the next goal to tie the game at two in the seventh minute of the stanza.

A power play opportunity came for the Thunder in the 11th minute which they would convert on to retake the lead. Freshman Anabelle Scriver (Holt, Mich.) scored the goal, making the game the third in the last five that she has done so. Mleko and Wilson added assists. For Wilson, the three points marks the fifth time this season she has tallied at least three.

Unfortunately, the goal was the team's last and St. Norbert would score two more in the period to retake the lead and enter the second intermission with a 4-3 margin.

The Thunder would fail to score in the final period and the score would stand with the team on the wrong side of the score.

The loss eliminates Trine from the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs. They finish the season with a 9-17-1 overall record.
