Stevenson Defeats Women's Hockey 3-2

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – A last second goal by the home team sent the Trine University women's hockey team home winless, despite a valiant comeback attempt in the third period. The team dropped their second contest of the season to Stevenson University by the score of 3-2.

After a scoreless first period, excitement reigned in the opening minutes of the second. In the opening seconds a penalty was called against the Mustangs, giving the Thunder a power play opportunity. A minute and a half later Stevenson opened the scoring for the day with a shorthanded goal.

Trine responded in the same power play when senior Gabrielle Hicks forced the puck through the goalkeeper to tie the game at one. Junior Grace Hicks recorded an assist on the attempt.

The home side took back the lead in the 18th minute of the period and took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

The Thunder knotted the contest in the 11th minute of the final period in a bid for a comeback. The elder Hicks scored her second goal of the day with Grace Hicks and sophomore Lea Connor adding assists.

Trine committed just their third penalty of the day with just thirty seconds remaining in the contest, and it would end up costing them. Just six seconds into the man advantage the home team took back the lead. They held on for the final 24 seconds of regulation to hand the Thunder the loss.

Junior Marie Dedert played her first game in net for Trine and finished the contest with 34 saves despite recording the loss.

The Thunder fall to 0-2 following the loss. They will return home for their next contest when they host Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday, Nov. 11. The home opener is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
