Third Period Goal Hands Women's Hockey Second NCHA Loss

ANGOLA, Ind. – The day started with two scoreless periods, but the visiting team from Concordia University Wisconsin ended up with the lone goal of the game in the third to finish a sweep of the Trine University women's hockey team.

The Thunder outshot the opposition in the first period putting ten on goal to the Falcons six. Despite the totals it was the visiting team that threatened a goal, having two shots hit the crossbar and ricochet away.

In the second Concordia Wisconsin overtook Trine offensively putting 17 shots on goal to just five for the home squad. In goal, freshman Casey Frank kept the team in the game, holding the shutout through the second period.

In the third the visiting team finally broke the tie scoring at the 5:33 mark of the period. The goal came after a wide shot rebounded to just beside the net, allowing the other forward to put it home past Frank's outstretched pad.

Frank continued to play well in goal after the goal. She finished the period with another 13 saves bringing her total for the game to 36.

Offensively the Thunder were unable to tally a goal of their own, hampered in the final minutes by just their second penalty of the game. The 1-0 score eventually went final.

Trine falls to 0-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will continue NCHA play when they take on nationally-ranked Adrian College next weekend. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18 and will be played at Adrian. The teams will come to Thunder Ice Arena on Saturday for the second half of the doubleheader.
