Foresters Best Thunder 2-0

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team hosted Lake Forest College for a non-conference midweek game with the visiting team coming out on top by the score of 2-0.

The Thunder started the game strong, outshooting the Foresters 12-7 in the first period. Neither team would score as the goalies held up in net.

A penalty early in the second period gave the visitors a man advantage leading to the first goal of the contest and giving Lake Forest a 1-0 lead. They added a second goal in the ninth minute to build that lead to 2-0.

The Foresters bombarded freshman Casey Frank in the final 30 minutes of the contest, with the Thunder goalie holding up remarkably well. In the final two periods, Frank faced 45 shots and allowed just the two goals. All told she finished the game with 50 saves, her second game of the season reaching that mark.

Offensively Trine struggled to gain purchase, with the team finishing the game with 21 shots on goal. Sophomore Kailey Mleko led the team with six.

The Thunder fall to 4-8-0 overall following the loss. They will face a quick turnaround as they travel to face Finlandia University this weekend for a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) doubleheader. The first game of the series is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Friday, January 13.
