Nationally-Ranked St. Norbert Pulls Away in Third

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team kept it close with nationally-ranked St. Norbert College but ultimately fell in the contest by the score of 6-1.

The Green Knights, who are currently ranked 13th by the USCHO.com poll, struck first in the game. They scored their goal in the fifth minute of play to take a 1-0 lead.

In the 12th minute of the same period, the Thunder came up with a steal in the offensive zone. Sophomore Kailey Mleko moved the puck to the goal line on the far side of the ice before passing it back and forth with classmate Ellie Warhoftig inside the far circle. Warhoftig would eventual fire a shot that bounced off the goalie's inner thigh and through the five-hole for the goal.

The 1-1 tie last into the first intermission. St. Norbert took back the lead in the fourth minute of the second with the lone goal of the period.

Freshman Casey Frank was a big part of the game remaining a one-score contest into the third. She recorded 45 saves in the first two periods and ended the game with 62.

The Green Knights pulled away in the third, scoring four goals to build their lead to the final of 6-1.

Trine falls to 8-11 overall and 4-7 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, February 4 when they once again host the Green Knights. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
