Women's Hockey Drops Game Two to St. Norbert

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team was outmatched by visiting St. Norbert College in a 9-2 loss. The Green Knights are currently ranked 13th in the latest USCHO.com national poll.

St. Norbert opened the scoring in the first minute of play before ultimately taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. They added another three goals in the second period to build that lead still higher at 6-0.

After an opening goal by the visitors in the third period neither team scored for over seven minutes of game time. Then in the eighth minute of the stanza the Green Knights took a pair of penalties back-to-back giving the Thunder a 5-on-3 opportunity. The team executed perfectly stringing together a few passes before junior Taryn Raisanen fired the shot that found the back of the net. Senior Gabrielle Hicks and junior Grace Hicks each recorded assists on the goal.

Trine cut into the lead still further three minutes later. This time sophomore Anabelle Scriver started the play passing the puck out of the defensive zone and up the far boards where senior Sara Martino was waiting to pop it back toward the center of the ice. Senior Grace Canty streaked forward and carried the puck the rest of the way toward the net, beating the goalie for the breakaway goal and making the score 7-2.

It was as close as the Thunder could pull, with St. Norbert recording the final two goals of the game to finish off with the 9-2 victory.

Trine falls to 8-12 overall and 4-8 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. The team currently sits sixth in the league standings with 12 points. They will look to improve on that spot when they travel to face Lake Forest College next weekend for a pair of games. The Foresters currently sit just two points ahead of the Thunder in the standings, with two games left to be played this weekend. The first game between the two teams is scheduled for Friday, February 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
