Thunder Stumble at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Trine University women's hockey team came up short of their hosts from Lake Forest College, falling in the front half of the weekend doubleheader by the score of 6-0.

The Foresters quickly took the lead in the contest, posting a pair of goals in the first period and taking the 2-0 lead into the opening intermission. Despite the score deficit it ended up being the closest of the periods with the home team outshooting the Thunder just 9-8.

Lake Forest pulled away in the second period, scoring three goals while outshooting Trine 17-6. They added a final goal in the third period to win the contest 6-0. The Foresters also won the shot battle 40-20 in the game.

Sophomore Kailey Mleko led the Thunder on the offensive end of the ice, putting five shots on net, with three skaters tied for second with three each. In net, freshman Casey Frank finished the game with 34 saves, despite recording the loss.

Trine fall to 8-13-0 overall and 4-9-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will finish the doubleheader with Lake Forest tomorrow, Saturday, February 14 with opening puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
