ANGOLA, Ind. – Sophomore Casey Frank turned in a valiant effort between the pipes, but the Trine University women's hockey team came up short on the scoreboard falling to visiting SUNY Canton by the score of 2-0.

The Kangaroos pressed an advantage from the start, spending most of the first period on the attack. They outshot the home team 18-4 in the first stanza, with Frank recording 17 shots. The lone goal of the period came in the 16th minute of the period to give Canton the lead heading into the first intermission.

The Thunder showed some life in the final minute of the period, with Kailey Mleko firing two shots back-to-back that forced saves. Gabrielle Hicks followed up a few seconds later with another shot on goal, which ended up being one of the last actions before the buzzer.

Trine was outshot again in the second (17-7) and third (8-3) periods. Canton added just one more goal however, coming in the third period, with Frank standing tall in net. The sophomore finished the game with 41 saves.

The two teams will retake the ice tomorrow, Saturday, October 28 for the second half of the weekend doubleheader. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
