Spartans Shutout Women's Hockey

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team dropped a second straight game to the visiting University of Dubuque, dropping today's game by the score of 2-0.

The Thunder recorded 43 shots on goal in the contest but were unable to break through the Spartans' goalie. On the other end of the night, freshman Claire Schmaltz actual played a strong game for Trine ending the game with 23 saves and just one goal allowed, the other came on an empty net late in the third period.

Dubuque scored their first goal in the third minute of play, taking advantage of a turnover during a Trine power play before going the length of the ice. Neither team scored for the rest of the contest, until the Thunder pulled their goalie in the final minute of the contest. A long shot from the other end of the ice ended up in the back of the empty net to give the final score of 2-0.

On the offensive side of the ice freshman Dorka Gengeliczky led the team with seven shots with Kailey Mleko coming in second with six.

The Thunder fall to 0-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will travel to face St. Norbert College for their next weekend of competition. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for Friday, November 10 at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.
