Thunder Shutout Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Trine University women's hockey team secured their fist win of the season defeating SUNY Potsdam by the score of 1-0.

Payton Hans tallied the first game winner of the season in the final minute of the first period. After Dorka Gengeliczky earned a faceoff in the offensive end for the team with a shot of her own, the Thunder won the puck back to the point before the Bears intercepted a pass and attempted to clear the zone. Hans was able to collect the puck at the blueline and skate back to the high slot, where she fired a bullet into the back of the net.

Through the rest of the contest the Thunder defense took front stage. The Bears recorded double-digit shot totals in each period finishing with a total of 33 shots on goal. All were turned aside by Claire Schmaltz who earns the first win and shutout of the season in net.

The Thunder improve to 1-9-0 overall following the victory. After a short break for Thanksgiving, the team will return to the ice when they travel to face Marian University for a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) games. The first is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, December 1.
