FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Despite outshooting their hosts, the Trine University women's hockey team came up short of Marian University falling by the score of 3-0.

The Thunder doubled up the Sabres in shots during the first period, posting 13 to just six from the home side. The offensive effort was unsuccessful with neither team finding the back of the net and the game remaining tied in the first intermission.

Marian scored a pair in the second to build a 2-0 lead for the beginning of the third period. The goals came off the only period where the Sabres outshot the Thunder, finishing the period with a 12-10 advantage.

Trine did their best for goals in the third, once again outshooting their opponents 14-6. It was all for not with the lone goal of the period going to the home team to make the score final at 3-0.

Payton Hans led the team with eight of the 37 shots on goal, Emma-Lyn Stephenson was second with six. In net Claire Schmaltz played the game for Trine and finished the game with 21 saves and two goals allowed, the third came on an empty net.

Trine falls to 1-10-0 overall and 0-7-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. They will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, December 2 with a second game against the Sabres. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. ET.
