Thunder Win 5-0 Against Spartans

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Trine University women's hockey team picked up a convincing victory over the University of Dubuque, winning 5-0 on neutral ice.

The Thunder scored a pair of goals in the first period to take the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Payton Hans started the scoring in the contest with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute of play. The team followed up four minutes later with Kailey Mleko scoring with Lauren Lacroix adding an assist.

Neither team scored in the second period, but Trine continued to dominate in the offensive zone. The team recorded 18 shots in the first and 17 in the second to take a 35-10 deficit into the third period.

Mleko scored her second of the day to start off the third. That goal came just 30 seconds into the period with Sofia Koppa adding an assist.

Then the team pulled even further ahead with two more goals in the period, both coming on power plays. Lea Connor scored her first and Hans scored her second during the stretch. Lacroix assisted on both goals with Mleko and Ellie Warhoftig each assisting on one.

Mleko and Lacroix both finished the game with three points in the 5-0 victory. Mleko had two goals and an assist while Lacroix finished with three assists.

Ella Park played the game in goal for the team and finished the game with 14 saves and her first win of the season.

Trine improves to 4-11-0 overall all. They will continue their weekend by facing off with Lake Forest College in another non-conference contest. That game is scheduled to start tomorrow, Sunday, December 31 at 1 p.m. ET.
