Thunder Fall to Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Trine University women's hockey team return home with a weekend split, after dropping the final game of 2023 by the score of 4-0 to their hosts from Lake Forest College.

Neither team found the back of the net during the first period, but the Foresters outshot the Thunder 10-5 to control the momentum heading into the first intermission.

Trine was under even heavier fire in the second period, with Lake Forest leading the shots 17-5 in the stanza. The home team scored the first goal of the day in the fifth minute of the period, followed by their second in the 12th minute. They took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The shots were nearly even in the third, with Trine finishing with four to the oppositions five. Despite the even effort, the Foresters scored two more goals in the period to build their final lead of 4-0.

Payton Hans led the Thunder offensively with four shots on goal, with Hannah Lambers finishing with three. In goal, Claire Schmaltz finished with 28 saves while allowing three goals, the fourth coming on an empty net.

Trine falls to 5-12 overall following the loss. They face off with Adrian College for their next contest. That game is scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 6. It is set to be played in the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.
