Women's Hockey Shuts Out Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – The Trine University women's hockey team secured their first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) victory of the season, defeating Lawrence University by the score of 2-0.

The Thunder scored their first goal almost exactly halfway through the first period. The team went on the power play after a checking call was made against the Vikings. They worked the offense and ended up creating a scrum in front of the net with Grace Hicks coming out of the mix with the goal. Dorka Gengeliczky and Taryn Raisanen were credited with assists.

Neither team scored through the rest of the first, all of the second or the majority of the third. In the waning minutes of regulation Lawrence pulled their goalie in favor of the extra attacker looking to force overtime. The plan backfired and the Thunder scored their second goal of the game. Hannah Lambers blocked a shot with the loose puck ending up on the stick of Payton Hans. The junior skated through the neutral zone before passing to Kailey Mleko who cashed in with the easy goal.

Ella Park played a strong game in net for the Thunder, securing her second win of the season on the back of 32 saves.

Trine improves to 5-16-1 overall and 1-11-1 in NCHA play following the victory. They will meet the Vikings on the ice for the second game of the weekend tomorrow, Saturday, February 3. That game is set to start at 4 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. CT.
