Women's Hockey Finishes Sweep of Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – The Trine University women's hockey team finished off a weekend sweep of their hosts from Lawrence University with a 4-0 shutout. Four different members of the team scored in the contest.

The Thunder recorded their first goal in the opening period. Just 20 seconds after the Vikings took their first penalty of the game, Trine took advantage of the power play. Gabrielle Hicks scored the goal with Dorka Gengeliczky and Taryn Raisanen adding assists. It was the lone goal of the first with the team taking the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Payton Hans scored the lone goal of the second, an unassisted affair that gave the team a 2-0 lead heading into the third.

Trine posted their final two goals in just over a minute of play during the final stanza. Kailey Mleko got the first by herself before Madison Toor finished off the day, with some help from Ellie Warhoftig.

Ella Park recorded her second straight shutout victory in net for the Thunder. She finished the game with 31 saves.

Trine improves to 6-16-1 overall and 2-11-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. The team moves into seventh place in the NCHA standings following the victory, the top eight teams will advance to the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs.

The Thunder finish off the regular season with a home-and-home weekend against Adrian College next weekend. The opening game will be at home on Friday, February 9 at 7 p.m.
